FAQ
What is an aromantic?
An aromantic is someone who does not experience romantic attraction to others.
Do aromantics have something wrong with them?
No. Being aromantic is an orientation just like any other.
Can only asexuals be aromantic?
Nope! Anyone can be aromantic.
What’s this ‘queerplatonic’ thing you mention so much?
Queerplatonic relationships are something that’s more than friendship, but different than romance. A definition is here.
What’s a ‘zucchini’?
Zucchini is a silly word that some aromantics use to describe queerplatonic partners, since there are no other existing words that fit. More on that here.
Can an aromantic still be in a romantic relationship/ship characters together/do other things conventionally considered romantic?
Of course! Aromanticism, like every other orientation, is about attraction, not action. If you don’t experience romantic attraction, you are aromantic, regardless of whether or not you do/enjoy conventionally romantic things.
But wait, how is that possible?
Because orientation is complex, and individuals are even complexer. There are a myriad of reasons an aromantic might find themselves in a romantic situation, or might enjoy doing things that are usually considered by most to be “romantic”. One of these is compromise (wanting to enjoy certain aspects of a romantic relationship, but not others), one is because of confusion, and another is just because they simply enjoy it.
What is a ‘squish’?
A squish is an non-romantic equivalent of a crush. Basically: wanting intensely to be friends or queerplatonic partners with someone.
Can romantics have squishes or queerplatonic partners?
Yup! It’s certainly more common among aromantics, especially the terminology, but it isn’t reserved for us.
How can aromantics be sexual?
Because they experience sexual attraction, but not romantic. It’s the flip side to romantic asexuals.
Can I submit things that apply to aromanticism, but aren’t a meme, such as articles or quotes?
Absolutely! Though this started as a meme blog, I’d like it to be an overall aromantic blog, so go ahead and submit anything you think applies to us.
